I stumbled after 3 semesters of steady progress. I didn’t fail any module but it is just not good enough for me. It is disgusting. This feels strangely like a breakup though. First, shock and numbness followed by sadness and then anger. Finally, retrospect and a thousand and one regrets.

There’s a cat killer on the loose and it’s worrying for all cat parents. Have you seen the photos of the dead kitties? They were tortured so badly, one had a fractured jaw and another was strangled by a wire. It makes me so angry looking at it. Some pigs actually justified the killer’s actions by saying that it’s probably motivated by anger, perhaps the cat scratched his/her car or something. If that’s the kind of logic you want, then we might as well regress and be a completely lawless and an unethical society where everyone kills everyone for the smallest and pettiest reason. Another pig said that it’s a good way to control the stray cat population. There is a problem of strays in Singapore but the situation is not as severe as what people make it out to be. Yes, it must be controlled and lowered but at the same time it’s not like there are 100 stray cats at any given location in Singapore. In my estate, there are only 2 or 3 stray cats and they do not bother people, they just laze around in the sun. People who say that the stray issue is a major problems are probably felinephobic, narrow-minded, selfish individuals who think that this country only meant to be occupied by human beings. IF, and I really mean if, we want to use death as a way to curb the stray population, surely there is a humane way of putting a cat to sleep. And not by strangling it with a raffia string or putting it in a plastic bag and throwing it down the flat. The cause of strays are not the cats but irresponsible cat owners, who either change their mind about wanting the cat and dump their cat or decided to not sterilize the cats which leads to unnecessary breeding and subsequent dumping. In any case, I am quite sure the cat killer did not intend to solve this stray issue or whatever. He or she is just a urghhhhhh, fucker?
I have reminded Mok (Siti’s nickname) many times not to wander far from the house because besides being potentially harassed by frisky tomcats, there is also the threat of the cat killer. At most she is allowed to roll around right outside the front door but that’s it. Sometimes she crosses the boundary by running into my neighbour’s house and unfortunately, two of them are TERRIFIED of cats. So there’s usually loud shrieking coming out from their house, followed by a rapid movement of small furry feet and the jingling-jangling of a bell. I’m just worried that one day Mok decides to be adventurous and explore even further. Let’s not forget that Mok jumped from my 7th storey flat before (and thankfully survived). Ever since that episode, my house has become a fortress. The front door is only opened to go in and out and the windows are open for ventilation only when someone is around to keep an eye on Mok. So people, keep your kitties safe.
